Today, HMRC has published the draft legislation for the introduction of a new tax on plastic packaging with less than 30% recycled content. This is to take effect from April 2022. IOM3 welcomes this progress and is glad to see some of the issues the Institute raised in our response complied in August 2020 addressed.
On 21 October, IOM3 on behalf of the Iron & Steel Society held the annual Sir Henry Bessemer Lecture and Awards, delivered by the 2019 Bessemer Gold Medalist Professor Dave Worsley FIMMM, Professor of Engineering at Swansea University, UK.
This year's Young Persons' Lecture Competition took place virtually on 23 September 2020 for the first time. Competitors gave a lecture of 15 minutes on a topic related to materials, minerals, mining, packaging, clay technology and wood science and engineering.
The Institute has published its Annual Report and Financial Statements for 2019. The report highlights the Institute's 150th anniversary celebrations, covering all departments, local societies and technical communities. The report also features IOM3 award winners and events.
